SS 18 - Trend Forecasting

Research suggests that SS 18 trends will include the revival of nature, including the use of earthy colours, such as pale greens (a variation of what we saw last season) and organic textures which reflect the ever-growing customer consciousness towards environmentally friendly fashion. Retailers are constantly searching for new and innovative ways to make fashion more 'environmentally friendly' and with the advancement of technology they are able to do so in creating sustainable fashion along with more futuristic designs such as light-weight sportswear, which can be worn in more casual backdrops - also known as athleisure. Athleisure has been growing in popularity over the years, and it seems that it will continue to grow as technology advances. Athleisure will be seen hand in hand with the 70's trend, which incorporates geometric shapes, pale earthy pastel colours paired with high intensity bright yellows and greens, and high shine/liquid gloss, light weight fabrics that promote fluid movement and comfort. This colour palette, that of pastels and high intensity colours, seems to have been taken from various cultures across the globe, such as Cuba and South America, which can been seen in the choice of patterns too. Although fashion is becoming more innovative and abstract, customers seem to be valuing comfortable, light-weight and soft fabrics,  including soft padding (as can be seen in athleisure), smooth yarns and 'organic textures'.
